How often do groups rehearse?

It depends on the group, and the type of group. Visit our Join Us page on the website for information on this.

Are auditions required for every group?

Not at all! Chordally Invited is open to all!

Why does it matter if a group is a ‘new group’?

New groups must meet specific criteria, including reaching a minimum number of members, to become fully established within our society. Affiliation usually happens the day after the results weekend, depending on how many people accept their offers.

What happens if I audition for a ‘new group’?

If you audition for a new (non-affiliated) group, they need to gather enough members to become affiliated. This affiliation allows them to book rehearsal rooms, participate in concerts, and join other society activities.

What if a non-affiliated group doesn’t reach the required number of members?

If a non-affiliated group doesn’t meet the required number of members, you’ll still be a member of the A Cappella Society. During or immediately after the results weekend, you’ll be offered a spot in one of our other groups, depending on availability.

Can I join if I’m an associate or not a current student?

If you’re an associate or not currently a University of Nottingham student, you’ll need to get permission from the student groups team to join Nottingham A Cappella Society. This involves applying for associate membership, which must be completed before you can join a group or participate in any activities.

What should I do if I haven’t secured associate membership before auditions?

If you haven’t secured associate membership to the University of Nottinghams’ Students Union before auditions, go ahead and audition. Let the group leader know you’re awaiting associate membership. Depending on their decision, you might be placed on a waiting list until your associate membership is approved. Until then, you’ll be a provisional member and unable to take part in rehearsals, concerts, or other activities.

Can I join any group?

You’ll typically need to audition for most of our groups, but you can audition for as many or as little as you want. It depends on the group, and the type of group. Visit our Join Us page on the website for information on this.

I’d like to contact a specific group. How do I do this?

You can either use this form to contact our group coordinator, or contact the group directly through their instagram account.

I have another question

I’ve got a query specifically about results weekend

What happens during results weekend?

Results weekend runs from October 5-6, 2024. During this time, you’ll receive an email with your audition results. Emails can arrive at any time over the weekend, possibly as late as 9 pm on October 6th. We’ll post updates on social media if there are delays.

When will I get my results email?

The Results Weekend is scheduled for October 5-6, 2024. During this period, you will receive an email with your audition results. These emails may arrive at any time over the weekend, and possibly as late as 9 pm on October 6th. If there are any delays, we will provide updates on social media. Please don’t email us to ask when you’ll get your email, as it depends on a lot of factors and is difficult to estimate.

What should I do when I receive my results email?

Once you get your results email, respond within 12 hours to secure your spot. If you delay, we’ll try to reach you by phone, calling you up to three times. If we can’t contact you, your place will be offered to someone else, and you’ll be notified that you’ve been placed on a reserve list.

What does the results email include?

The results email includes a link to accept your offer. To confirm your place, you’ll need to accept the offer and purchase society and group membership.

How can I make sure I don’t miss my results email?

Check your university email regularly throughout the weekend. Consider downloading the Outlook app to stay updated. We won’t be able to respond to inquiries about when you’ll receive your offer. If you haven’t received any email by 23:59 on October 6th, please contact us immediately.

Why do I have an offer from a group I didn’t audition for?

While it’s possible to receive an offer from a group you didn’t audition for, you can only join a group that has given you an offer.

How can I get feedback from my auditions?

If you’d like feedback on your auditions, you can reach out to the audition panel or group leader directly. They’re usually happy to provide constructive comments and suggestions to help you improve. Be sure to ask politely, as they may be managing a large number of requests. It’s best to reach out soon after the results are announced while the audition is still fresh in their minds. Keep in mind that detailed feedback might take a little time, so be patient while they compile their notes. If you have any complaints or concerns, please visit our wellbeing page.
