At the University of Nottingham A Cappella Society, we’re proud to offer a diverse range of vocal groups to suit every interest and skill level. Our groups fall into three main categories: non-competitive, competitive and open-to-all. If you’re looking for more information on our groups and their auditions, head over to our auditions handbook.
Aca-Pocalypse
Competitive
Aca-Pocalypse (AP) are a mixed competitive group who have made it to the ICCA UK Finals 3 years running. They love to sing upbeat hype music and are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year!
Chordally Invited
Open-to-All
Chordally Invited is a non-auditioned group open to all people regardless of previous singing experience. There’s always excellent vibes and no big commitments.
Echotones
Competitive
We’re a fun, mixed group covering everything from alt-pop to rock. We’ve performed nationwide, with some of us even at Fringe with RO! This year, we have a collab with a local artist, recording an album, and prepping for our ICCA debut. Check out our new single on all platforms!
Firecracappella
New Group*
Firecracker: a loud, explosive firework; a banger. 🧨 The Firecracapellas are a new mixed A Cappella group at the University of Nottingham aiming to go competitive this year. We sing diverse songs, encourage member creativity, and welcome all vocal parts
RadioOctave
Competitive
Founded in 2014, RO have been ICCA UK finalists 4-years running. We took the Edinburgh Fringe by storm in both 2023 and 2024. We have also performed at Vocal Jam, SNAC, and the Women’s Cricket World Cup Semi-Final.
Vox Inferii
Non-Competitive
Vox Inferii, the university’s first metal-based A Cappella group, adds the voices of the underworld to the society. Containing genres from nu-metal, to rock, to classic heavy metal, we perform them at concerts just by using our voice. It is open to all genders and is auditioned.
Son of a Pitch
Non-Competitive
We’re Son of a Pitch, a non-competitive, auditioned group who love to bring the vibes and have fun together! We have a rainbow colour scheme, and sing a range of genres, including pop, indie, and musical theatre.
*Why is it important if a group is a ‘New Group’?
Our new groups need to meet certain criteria, including having enough members, to become fully established A Cappella groups within our society. Usually, they’ll become affiliated the day after the results weekend, depending on how many people accept offers. If you audition for a non-affiliated group, they’ll need to gather enough members to become affiliated (which means they can book rooms for rehearsals, be in our concert, and join other activities). If they don’t hit the required number, you’ll still be a member of the A Cappella Society and will be offered a spot in one of our other groups after the placement period, based on availability.
Edinburgh Fringe
Last year, Aca-Pocalypse and RadioOctave joined forces as Double Treble to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This year, they’re expanding their collaboration even further. Members from multiple a cappella groups, including Aca-Pocalypse, RadioOctave, Echotones, Son of a Pitch, and Firecrackers, are coming together under the RadioOctave banner. This newly formed supergroup aims to once again captivate audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe, building on their previous success and showcasing an even broader range of talent.
